South Island – CHECK ✅
KM Mark Start:
1702
Start Location:
Furneaux Lodge
KM Mark Finish:
1689
Finish Location:
Meretoto/Ship Cove then Picton then Kaikoura.
Actual KM Today:
14
Weather:
Sunny – turned to rain in the arvo.
General:
Departed Furneaux Lodge at 5:30am as I needed to be at Ships Cove before 9:30am to get the water taxi back to Picton and the estimated time frame for that stretch is between 4-5.5hrs.
First thing I noticed when I started were the stags roaring in each of the gullies. They were incredibly loud most of the morning. Made it to Ship Cove in good time and managed to fit in a good look around the Cook Memorials and a swim in the ocean to celebrate the end of my South Island journey! Really happy to have made it this far. A massive thank you to everyone that has helped along the way to make it all possible. To those that I have met along the way, it was an absolute pleasure, thanks for making the trail such an amazing place to be.
Body/Health:

Outlook:
Happy to have the SI under my belt but also a little gutted the SI is finished. Looking forward to seeing what surprises the NI has in store for me

Fantastic pics matey- even in the rain it is a glorious part of the country (2nd only to Clyde!!). Walked Furneaux to Punga cove about 30 years ago this year-also some precipitation!! Enjoy the NI cobber-but keep your jewels tucked in!!

Haha, Thanks Ruth! That’s the first thing I thought when I realised I was finishing on Day 80! (And thank God it’s not 11 or 111). Heeeelll no haven’t trimmed the beard!!

Gee Michael If I need inspiration I look at your pics – they are awesome and I find your journey so awesome. While my doing 8 days on the Camino a couple of years ago is no comparison to your epic journey, it gives me a little idea of the concept of being on the road so to speak! Go well now as you depart Waipounamu.

Thanks Yvonne! I would love to do the Camino one day!! You’ll need to give me some insider tips. The scenery has been amazing, wish I could do it more justice with the camera!

Mike, love that you finished on day 80!! Still can’t believe you have knocked it off, never doubted you just don’t know if I want you to finish … enjoying the journey from the warmth and safety on my desktop far too much. Something special about the rainbow too … stoked for you! xx

Yes, I’d say it’s fate because 8 is my fave number, but that would risk Will getting all excited that he might be onto something re: his love affair with the number 11. So I won’t 😆
