100 KM CHALLENGE!!
¡¡Whoop whoop!!
KM Mark Start:
1461
Start Location:
Palmerston North
KM Mark Finish:

Finish Location:
Whanganui KM 1361
Actual KM Today:

Weather:
Clear at night to start, sun during the day and as night rolled around again it bought a southerly system with strong winds and rain.
General:
I don’t know where to start with this one….It was a physical and emotional battle. Started at midnight and the first 40km were relatively enjoyable with calm weather conditions and quiet roads.
My legs started to feel the hurt at around 45 km and this just got progressively worse until the 75km mark. Heels started to bruise and blister so some running repairs were required.
At around 80km I had a burst of energy after something substantial to eat and drink. This wore off quickly and as night rolled in, so did the rain and wind. The last 15km seemed to stretch on forever!! I really had to work hard to distract myself from the negative thoughts. I was pretty dark on it for the last 15km. With about 5km to go I had just had enough and broke into a walk/jog, just to end the struggle ASAP 😆. Haha, in saying this, I loved every second of the challenge and am super stoked I was able to firstly complete the 100km and secondly complete it in 20 hrs and 20 mins.
Thank you to everyone that sent messages of support before, during and after!
Thanks to Karen Griffiths for all her support. She’s the entire support dream team wrapped up in one person!
I have some 10km update videos which I may post at some stage.
Body/Health:
Pretty sore legs, blistered soles and backs of heels. Nothing permanent, so happy camper.
Outlook:
Really happy I managed that. Happy with my time. I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d get there when I decided on the challenge. I knew I was determined to give it everything and expected it to be difficult, but it still managed to throw unexpected challenges at me, which I was stoked to overcome.
Tune of the Day:

Absolutely unreal& I can’t believe you did all that basically on your own in your own head & body (obviously your own body but no others accompanying it!) I mean there are amazing 100km ultratrail events avail lol – they are full of people competitors & supporters! Seriously next level mental challenges Mike! Be SO PROUD! I saw Jo at mass that Sunday and she was so proud from the pews 🙂
