General:

191. Apprehensively started the walk toward the muddy Raetea Forest. Before I’d even left it was bucketing down. Passed through the “Dog Lands” (property with a load of angry barking dogs on chains). The trail is muddy, with steep ups and downs. There is a lot of talk about how drinkable water is scarce on this section. Not after the rains we have had, it was flowing down the trail. Spotted the odd wild pig. Spent half the day picking myself up from slipping down the mud slopes. Nice section, great bush and that is the last bush section I’ll do before Cape Reinga. Whoop whoop!

192. Nice easy road walk down SH1 to Kaitaia. Checked into Beachcomber Lodge and went for a beer and to watch the Warriors game 😬.

193. Rest Day & Updates. A girl started crying today when I was telling her about what I’d been doing. Really nice to know it has a feel good factor for some peeps.

Outlook:

Looking forward to the beach! Wish the weather would stick to a few sunny days. Would make the coastal walk a lot nicer. (X3)
